Dear Wow - what an AWTE PR Summer it has been! There is so much to talk about and limited space to do so, but here goes... It has been a tough year for many members and the Association has tried to build in more value than ever by providing free seminars and networking events, where possible. We have tried to support and reward members who have been loyal to the Association, we have increased our presence in the marketplace and recognition goes to the Committee for their efforts and time involved and to you, the members, for the encouragement and support in changing perceptions. AWTE has achieved new levels of success! Chairman's Awards Lunch The Chairman's Awards will take place on 14 October and the event is sponsored by The Network. Jane Dyson - Entrepreneur, Managing Director and Award-winner herself - is our guest speaker. Nominations are open for both Business Impact and Chairman's Award. Please take a few minutes to read the criteria sent to you via e-mail and show your support for a colleague who has impacted their business or delivered outstanding achievement to the Association or to the travel industry. Deadline for nominations is 30 September. Check out the Bellissima B jewellery sale on the day! Book your place now and send your nomination to chair@awte.org.uk. Boardroom Ready AWTE has really raised the game for women in the boardroom, and the launch of the Boardroom Ready project opened a can of worms for press and PR! This new initiative, in association with venture capitalist, Gita Patel of Stargate Capital, is a series of free seminars for members only. By preparing women for non-executive director roles and ensuring there is a full understanding of the skills required, AWTE is supporting gender diversity in the boardroom. This project is a pilot and we are being closely monitored by our press colleagues. The next session tackles Boardroom & Gender Dynamics and will take place on 26 October. Check the website soon for venue and details. Living Life Online - with Yahoo! Yahoo, sponsor of our last event, unveiled their latest research relating to women online. Did you know that women remain the decision-makers for travel bookings and spend 25% of media time online? 53% said that their life balance had improved since the introduction of the internet and now 80% of flights/holidays are booked online. Any member communicating with the consumer would have found this behaviour research a useful marketing tool. Thanks to Yahoo! for sponsoring the session - and the Souk Bar drinks too! | | Congratulations - Ian Taplin, Rex Resorts AWTE sponsored Ian Taplin from Rex Resorts, long-term sponsor of the AWTE Xmas Lunch, in his Swim for Africa challenge which he completed in just 3 hours 45 minutes. After 15 months of training Ian swam the 12 miles from Spain to Morocco across the Gibraltar Straits raising £5,000 for travel charity, Just A Drop. | | Congratulations - AWTE Triathletes! Carol Dray, Sarah Johnson and Gail Kenny successfully completed the London triathlon in 2.5 hours, despite the pouring rain. Donning AWTE T-shirts, our ladies swam 750m, cycled for 20km and ran for 5km - all in succession and without a break! They raised over £2,000 for Leukaemia - so raise your glasses to them! | | Finally... ... if you know of a colleague who has suffered illness or fallen on hard times, contact Bella Rangel Callan at the AWTE Benevolent Fund on 020 7828 9422. See you at the Chairman's Awards Lunch! Tricia Handley Chair, AWTE |
